Chile Chico is a village in central Aysén and one of Chile's easternmost settlements. The village sits approximately halfway between Patagonia's two most iconic highways — the Carretera Austral and Ruta 40. A popular border checkpoint, Chile Chico is the closest vehicle crossing to the Carretera Austral's southern terminus. A ferry connects the village with Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez, located on the north shore of the brilliantly turquoise Lago General Carrera.
Ruta 265 connects Chile Chico with the Carretera Austral (~115 km to the east) and Ruta 40 (~60 km to the west). Santa Cruz and the village of Los Antiguos are less than 4 km from from Chile Chico, just across the Argentina border. The area experiences a Mediterranean climate.
